Root Canals

If you have a tooth that is severely decayed, infected, or damaged, you may need a root canal treatment to save it and relieve your pain. A root canal is a common dental procedure that involves removing the soft inner part of the tooth, called the pulp, and filling and sealing the space. When the pulp becomes inflamed or infected, it can cause severe pain and sensitivity, and may lead to an abscess or tooth loss if left untreated.

Pain Free Procedure

At Chester Dental Associates, we perform root canal treatments with the utmost care and professionalism. We use local anesthesia to numb the tooth and the surrounding area for a pain-free experience. To prevent contamination, a rubber dam is used to isolate the tooth. Then, a small opening in the tooth is made. Special instruments are used to remove the pulp and clean and shape the root canal. Antibiotics may also be applied to eliminate any remaining bacteria to prevent infection.

We then fill the root canal with a rubber-like material and seal the opening with a temporary filling. After the root canal treatment, if a crown is needed, we will take impressions of your tooth and send them to a dental lab to create a permanent crown that will restore the shape, function, and appearance of your tooth. We will schedule a follow-up appointment to place the crown and check the healing of your tooth.

Aftercare Tips

Most patients report little or no discomfort after a root canal treatment, and can resume their normal activities within a day or two. However, you may experience some soreness, swelling, or sensitivity in the treated area, which can be managed with over-the-counter painkillers and ice packs.

You should also avoid chewing or biting on the treated tooth until the permanent crown is placed, and maintain good oral hygiene and regular dental visits to keep your tooth healthy and strong. If you have any questions or concerns about root canal treatments, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are here to help you achieve and maintain a healthy and beautiful smile.
